System Engineer / Estimator
What You Will Do
- Prepare accurate and competitive project estimates for low-voltage systems including access control, security cameras, intrusion detection, and AV systems across a wide range of commercial projects.
- Review project plans, specifications, and scope of work documents to develop detailed material and labor takeoffs using Bluebeam and Excel.
- Collaborate with project managers, sales staff, and field technicians to ensure estimates reflect real-world installation requirements and company capabilities.
- Attend site walks, client meetings, and pre-bid walkthroughs to assess project conditions and gather information critical to accurate estimating.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors and manufacturers to ensure up-to-date pricing and product knowledge.
- Present proposals and system recommendations to clients in a clear, professional manner.
- Support the engineering and design process by developing system layouts, equipment schedules, and bid documentation.
- Track bid history, win/loss data, and project costs to continuously improve estimating accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in systems estimating, engineering, or a closely related role in the low-voltage or construction industry.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam for plan takeoffs and markup.
- Strong Excel skills including formulas, cost modeling, and bid spreadsheet management.
- Solid understanding of low-voltage systems including access control, IP cameras, and security infrastructure.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and RFPs.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with a professional, client-facing demeanor.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience estimating across multiple low-voltage disciplines including access control, surveillance, intrusion, and AV systems.
- Familiarity with platforms such as Verkada, Brivo, or Avigilon.
- Experience working with general contractors, construction managers, or in a design-build environment.
- Knowledge of low-voltage installation methods, conduit systems, and cabling infrastructure.
- Familiarity with project management software or CRM tools used in the construction/technology industry.
- Manufacturer certifications or formal training in any supported platforms.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
